In The Beginning
I’ve sewn ever since I was a teenager. Back then I made a lot of my clothes and even my formals for special dances. Like a lot of things I used to do, I put it away for many years. A couple of years ago, I finally purchased another machine. I intended to use it mostly for repairing clothing for my kids and myself. Most of the time it sat collecting dust.
Last December, we had a chance to go back home to visit family at Christmas. I have a few grand nieces now. They are all little bitty things but I didn’t want to arrive empty-handed. A limited budget made me turn to my sewing machine. I dusted it off and set to work. The fishy purses you will find on this site, and in another post, were the first things I made for them. Then the dolls because who doesn’t like toys? Then I got ambitious and put together a makeup bag and brush holder for my favorite (and only) niece.
A few months earlier I had found a roll of that black and white upholstery fabric you see in the picture. I think it was about $3 a yard, so I bought whatever was left. I think it was nearly 10 yds. I had been wondering what to do with it and decided to throw together a tote bag for my busy busy sister. It turned out to be much easier than I imagined and I received many compliments on it.
Well I’ve decided to put that fabric and the sewing machine to good use and well, here I am! I hope you take a look around. I hope you like what you see and if you do purchase something from me, I hope it makes you happy.
